Cathy and Brian Adopt
INTRODUCTION
Hi! We’re Cathy, Brian and our son Clay!
Hello and welcome! Thank you for considering us in your journey. You are likely making one of the hardest choices one can make and we genuinely appreciate you considering us as adoptive parents.
We came to the decision to pursue an open adoption through research and speaking with other families. We welcome our adoptive mom as extension of our family in any way you feel most comfortable. We believe an open adoption is most healthy for baby, for you and for us and so we invite you into our lives with open arms. Open adoption allows for us to provide cultural and familial context as well as important health history to our child.
We hope by choosing your child’s parents that you have peace of mind and allows you to know your child is being raised by kind, loving parents and a big brother that can’t wait to have a sibling to pal around with.
about us
We have been married for 11 years and have a five-year-old son named Clay.
We love hanging out as a family, often going to the beach, riding bikes or taking mini “adventures” to experience new things. At home, we enjoy barbequing and playing games in the back yard. We have wonderful friends and often host game nights and other activities. We live in a very nice community with a variety of parks nearby which allows Clay to choose his play destination based on how he’s feeling that day. We have a pool and a playground in our neighborhood where we can go for quick play times or have a pool day.
Having both been involved in service through Rotary International and deeply involved in our community wherever we have lived, our core values reflect a passion to help others and a dedication to improving quality of life. We teach these values by example to our child.
our hobbies
We love to travel
We have thoroughly enjoyed taking our camper around Florida since moving here two years ago. We live an adventurous life! Before graduating from medical school, Brian’s education took us from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, through two years on a Caribbean island to finish up in Miami! It has been quite a journey, and we have loved every minute of it! We have also enjoyed trips to the United Kingdom, Mexico and Hawaii.
Now that school is completed, Brian will starting a Family Medicine residency program in Florida. We would like to put down roots here and serve our community moving forward.
our home
We have learned that where we are together is home.
With a medical student in the family we have jumped around a lot in the last 4 years. From our hometown in Reno, we moved to Sint Maarten in the Caribbean for the first two years of school when Clay was just one year old. We are now in Miami for clinical rotations. Miami has been a great city for us. Clay is in a wonderful school and we live in a quiet neighborhood with lots of kids. Our community has its own pool and a playground for the little ones.
Cathy has always made sure that wherever we go, it feels like home. She loves to decorate for the holidays. We often light the barbeque, get out the games and share our love of life with the people whom we have surrounded ourselves.
our family
Our biological family is small and widespread, so we have a tradition of “Friendsgivings” with close friends and what family we can assemble for the holidays. Cathy’s brother Joe, his wife Holly and their baby son Joey live in Reno so we visit a few times a year and they also have come to experience Florida! Clay’s God parents and our closest friends Jenn and Greg also live in Reno. Brian’s sister Jana and Cathy’s mom and stepdad live in Phoenix, Arizona.
We are very lucky with the friends that we have made over the years, and in Miami has been no exception. We have grown close to one of Brian's classmates “Dr. Maria” and her husband Mark. We see them at least once a week for dinner or a game night and Clay has become very attached to them. Also in Miami, we became fast friends with Celi and Eugene whom we met at a comedy show and have bonded over everything from our mutual love of Game of Thrones to our love of cooking and entertaining. We have been very lucky to have such wonderful friends in our lives.
About Brian
through cathy’s eyes
Brian’s laid back, bohemian upbringing balances out my rigid childhood environment. He flies well by the seat of his pants! That has landed us at really cool music festivals, restaurants that are off the beaten path and once it even led to an impromptu jungle adventure while on vacation in Mexico! He is a loving father who makes sure to show Clay plenty of affection and doesn’t hold back the praise.
About Cathy
through brian’s eyes
With a big personality and a love for life that I have rarely seen in others, she shares her best with Clay and I. I watch her go through life, continually amazed by the wonderful friendships she forms and her ability to see the good in everything. During our two years in the Caribbean, she built a wonderful home environment and made every day an adventure for our son. We complement each other in ways that I may not ever fully understand, but one thing is sure: Our life together is unquestionably more than the sum of its parts.
About Clay
future big brother
Our son Clay is a smart and rambunctious boy. He takes swimming lessons and has enjoyed Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu for the last two years. He is so excited to have a brother or sister! He also loves riding his bike, Hot Wheels and playing in the backyard.
Our Life As Parents
we are excited to add to our family!
We look forward sharing our camping trips and beach days, making cookies at Christmas and all of us piling onto the couch for our weekly movie night. We aim to teach our children how to be kind, giving people. Treating the world with respect and to respect themselves as valuable members of our family and community is key to our values as parents. It is an honor to witness the daily miracle that is the growth of our children. We constantly revel in their new insights and the lessons they learn at home and bring home from the world. Parenthood has been the greatest gift we have ever received. We strive to treat it with the caring and love it deserves every day.
in closing
Thank you again for letting us share our hearts with you.
We want you to know that we consider ourselves to be very lucky to have been considered by you. We have built a home and family based on the knowledge that we are blessed and responsible to give back to our community. It would be an honor to have you as a part of our future and thank you for your courageous effort in caring for your child. Living our lives with a sense of wonder and gratitude for how lucky we truly are is cornerstone to us and try to carry that attitude in our daily lives.
